    PROFILES OF ENGAGEMENT INVESTMENTS

PROFILES REVIEW

PACE invited 1,000 grantmakers and donors to nominate a program or project that they are currently supporting or have supported in the past. We received a great response and are excited to share them with grantmakers and the public.

PROFILES OF ENGAGEMENT INVESTMENTS: WINTER 2006

PACE continues to collect and share examples of philanthropic investments that have successfully advanced civic and community engagement. Read the latest issue of Profiles of Engagement Investments featuring 16 programs nominated by PACE members and friends, ranging in focus and scope from a classroom-based youth philanthropy project to a large statewide effort mobilizing civic dialogue and recommendations around tax reform. The issue also includes several examples of national service programs and community organizing in response to the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT IN HURRICANE RELIEF AND RECOVERY

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused tremendous damage and heartache, and prompted countless initiatives of individual service, community organizing and citizen participation. These initiatives addressed the need for immediate response and relief and now support and facilitate citizen engagement in community planning and re-building.

SPOTLIGHT ON

Mississippi Renewal Forum

Nominated by Alfredo Cruz of the John S. & James L. Knight Foundation

The Mississippi Renewal Forum is sponsoring “town hall” meetings in 14 communities affected by the Gulf hurricanes to discuss and react to recommendations by national experts on how to rebuild their communities. In partnership with the Mississippi Governor's Commission on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal, the Forum is directly engaging diverse groups of community leaders and citizens in discussions about immediate rebuilding needs as well as some specific issues affecting their communities’ future economic and social development, including transportation, tourism, government contracting, education, and nonprofit and faith–based organizations.
